Moreover, He is defined and designated as a Key managerial Personnel in an organization.

CMAs are professionals who specialize in financial management and Cost planning within organizations. The salaries of CMAs varies widely depending on their experience and the industry they work in. Usually CMAs can earn competitive salaries, especially as they gain more experience and advance in their careers.

 

CS are professionals who ensure compliance with corporate governance, legal, and regulatory requirements. The salaries of CSs can also vary notably based on factors such as experience, industry, and obviously the size of the company. CS are employed by large corporations or multinational companies and often have higher earning potential compared to those working in smaller organizations.



In nutshell, though it is hard to answer the question, it can be said that both professions are paid well according to their knowledge.



CS VS CMA SALARY

So finally we have reached that section, for which every CS CMA aspirant eagerly waits to know the earning potential of both the Professions. Let's look into the salary earned by both the professionals in with holding different years of experience:

 

CS:

 

Fresher: The starting salary for a fresher CS can range from Rs. 3-5 lacs p.a.

Mid-level CS: With a few years of experience the salary for a mid-level CS can range from RS. 5-12 lacs p.a

Senior-level CS: Experienced CS in leadership roles or those working in large companies can earn salaries ranging from RS. 12-30 lacs p.a. Or maybe even more.

Well the answer is very subjective. There is no such tangible parameter which can measure the toughness of both the courses. The difficulty level of a course depends on various factors, including your aptitude, interest, and prior knowledge in the relevant subjects.

 

The CA course is known for its demanding curriculum and difficult exams. It covers a wide range of subjects like accounting, taxation, auditing, and financial management. The exams are notorious for being quite tough, and the pass rates can be quite low. The course mainly focuses on practical subjects rather than theoretical.

 

Whereas, the CS course has its fair share of challenges in terms of huge syllabus. It focuses more on company law, corporate governance, and secretarial practices. It requires a solid understanding of legal and regulatory compliance. The exams can be tricky, and you need to stay on top of the ever-changing corporate rules and regulations.Meanwhile the CS has more of theoretical aspect in its course structure. 

It's worth noting that both courses require rigorous study dedication, and a thorough understanding of the respective subject matters. The difficulty level  in any professional course is subjective and varies from person to person. Some individuals may find certain aspects of one course more challenging, while others may excel in those areas.

CAN A NON MATHEMATICS STUDENT PURSUE CS?

 

Absolutely YES! The CS course is designed in such a way that any student coming from any academic background can pursue the course irrespective of what stream he has pursued which definitely makes the CS course wholesome.

 

While a basic understanding of mathematics can be helpful in certain areas of the course, such as financial management and accounting, the CS course primarily focuses on legal, governance, and compliance aspects related to corporate law.

 

The CS course covers subjects such as business law, company law, corporate governance, and other legal and regulatory frameworks. These subjects do not heavily rely on advanced mathematical concepts. Instead, they require analytical and logical thinking, interpretation of legal provisions, and understanding of company regulations.

 

Overall, being a non-math student should not be a barrier to pursuing the CS course.

CS ALONG WITH CA AND MBA SALARY IN INDIA?

 

The salary for a CS degree, along with a CA and MBA qualifications can vary based on various factors such as experience, job role, industry, and location.

 

Although Both of the three Professions do not require any additional degree to work in any organisation as the courses are self sufficient. Moreover, It is witnessed in India that a Professional whether be a CA or CS or MBA, they are being hired based on their single Professional background and not for holding multiple Professional degrees.

Stages to become a company secretary

  1. Register for the CSEET: The next step is to register for the CSEET course with ICSI. The registration process is pretty simple, and you can do it online.

 

  1. Clear the CSEET course: After registering for the CSEET Course, you need to clear it. The CSEET Course is an entry-level entrance exam that tests your knowledge of the basics of Communication, Reasoning, Current affairs .

 

  1. Register for the Executive Programme: Once you clear the CSEET Course, you can register for the Executive Programme with the ICSI. This is the next level of the CS course.

 

  1. Completion of One day orientation Programme [ODOP]: It is a Programme conducted by ICSI in their different chapters just to introduce students towards the CS Journey. Students need to complete the programme before appearing for Executive exams.

 

  1. Qualifying Pre Test: Pre test is a mock test conducted by ICSI through online mode which requires to be cleared in order to be eligible to appear in the CS executive exams.

So, here are the step-by-step instructions to become a CS:

 

Step 1: Complete 10+2 Education

  • Finish your high school education and successfully pass your 10+2 exams from a recognized board.

 

Step 2: Register for the CSEET

  • Register with the ICSI for the CSEET, which is the first level of the CS course.

 

Step 3: Clear the CSEET

  • Study and prepare for the CSEET examinations and successfully clear all the subjects.

 

Step 4: Register for the Executive Programme

  • Once you've cleared the Foundation Course, register for the Executive Programme, which is the next level of the CS course.

 

Step 5: Complete Executive Programme

  • Study the subjects covered in the Executive Programme and successfully pass all the examinations.

 

Step 6: Complete Executive development Programme (EDP)

  • Register yourself for the EDP which is a 30 days Programme conducted by ICSI in their regional Chapters. Out of 30 days, 15 days are being conducted in online mode and the rest of 15 days are conducted through offline mode.

 

Register as an Articled/Management Trainee

  • After completing the Executive Programme, register as a ManagementTrainee with a practicing CS or a company for practical training. Now it is important to note that training can be undergone after clearing CS Professionals also. But It can only be started after passing the CS Executive Programme.

 

Step 7: Practical Training

  • Undergo practical training for a period of 21 months, acquiring hands-on experience in company secretarial work.

 

Step 8: Clear Professional Programme

  • Register for the Professional Programme and prepare for the advanced level subjects of the CS course.




Step 9: CLDP:

  • Corporate Leadership and Development programme (CLDP) is an in-house training programme organized by ICSI where the training ranges between 40-60 days depending upon the schedule.

 

Step 10: Apply for Associate Membership

  • After completing the practical experience requirement, apply for Associate Membership with the ICSI, indicating successful completion of all stages of the CS course.

 

Step 11: Designation as Company Secretary

  • Upon becoming an Associate Member of the ICSI, you can use the designation of "CS" and work as a qualified professional in the field of corporate governance and compliance.

Although it's quite hard to tell the exact time period one needs to invest to become a qualified CS. However, In general parlance it would take around 4-6 years depending upon the no. of attempts a student has to go through in order to qualify all the three stages of the exam. Lets see How:

 

Stage 1: CSEET- Considering a student is entering CS after 10+2, it would take around 6 months to complete the CSEET.

 

Stage 2: Executive Programme: Executive Programme has got a syllabus which is extensive and needs plenty of your time to prepare and crack the exam. It would take around 1 year for an average student to clear this stage.

 

Stage 3: Professional Programme: It is the final and the advanced stage of the course which can be completed between 1 to 1.5 years of time,

 

Now, a student remains with Practical training which is of 21 months along with 60 days CLDP. 

 

After going through all the above phases of the course, a student is called a qualified CS.

Furthermore, it is worth noting here that the time quoted above is pressuming that a student is taking a single attempt to clear the exam. The time that will be taken for the students taking multiple attempts can vary.

🧑‍🎓CAN I FINISH A CS DEGREE IN 3 YEARS

A student with a relevant bachelor's degree can enroll in the professional course offered by the ICSI directly to the Executive Programme & complete it in about one year. However, this may vary based on individual pace, availability of study materials, and the number of attempts needed to clear the exams.

 

👉After completing the professional course, the student shall need to undergo practical training, which can take an additional two years or so.

Well, It is worth noting that the cost involved in pursuing the course is minimal and can be pursued by any student belonging to any class of the society. Apart from that there is neither any AGE barrier nor any CASTE reservations which make it more attractive as a career option. 

 

It provides two types of career options as a CS. One is as a CS in Employment, another one is CS as a Practitioner.

 

Now Let's talk about CS in Employment

 

  • CS is a highly respectable job in India coupled with legal responsibility.   • A CS is defined as a KEY MANAGERIAL PERSON under the Companies Act, 2013

  • All Listed Companies in India are required to appoint CS as a Compliance officer, which is again a senior position in any organisation.

 

CS in Practice/Self employed

 

  • A CS in Practice is recognised to issue compliance certificates and attest documents under: 

  1. The  Companies Act, 2013

  2. SEBI Act,SCRA , and

  3. Depositories Act, 2013

  • He is required to certify Annual Return of every company.

  • He is needed to Certify multiple E forms of Companies Act, 2013 that are to be filed regularly with ROC.

  • He is authorised under the Listing Regulations, to issue Corporate Governance Certificate.

  • He is also authorised to issue compliance certificate and so on.

Well, the scope of CS is wide ranging. It starts with Secretarial Compliance to act as Governance Professional. I will try to write about it in a brief manner:

  1. Secretarial Audit : Secretarial Audit is entirely and exclusively done by a qualified CS.

  2. Filling of various documents/returns as required under the provisions of various Corporate Laws.

  3. Acting as a Compliance Officer for Listed entities.

  4. Acting as a bridge between the Board of the company and the outsiders.

  5. Representing the Company before Various Authorities.

  6. Ensuring that the correct procedures have been followed that would result in the correctness, authenticity and comprehensiveness of the information, statements and reports filed by the listed entity under these regulations

  7. Providing Certificate regarding Transfer of Securities to listed entities

  8. Issuing certificate regarding compliance of conditions of Corporate Governance. 

  9. Issuing a certificate regarding Issuance of securities to more than 49 and up to 200 investors, and the refund procedure as prescribed by SEBI has been duly complied with.

  10. Practicing Company Secretary who is a Valuer is recognised under the following Regulations:

  • Generally, a fresher CS  can expect to earn an average annual salary of around Rs. 4-5 lakhs p.a
